Bow hunting in the winter months can almost be a spiritual experience. The beauty of snow-capped fields and woods, combined with the almost preternatural silence, makes it a favorite time to hunt for many bow hunters.
Hunting in cold weather takes a little more preplanning than warm weather hunting. Taking the time to get things will benefit you and increase your chances of landing big game.
Give Things A Chance To Settle
If you can, wait until a week or two after firearm hunting has ended to go bow hunting. This gives the animals time to settle back into a normal routine. Use this time to make sure all your equipment is in good working order.
He’s Still Ready To Rumble
Don’t worry; the big bucks are still out there. Why? Because there are does that didn’t take during the first rut, and he knows it. But these guys don’t often use the same trails the does and younger buck use, so keep that in mind.
Make sure your stand is in a pine tree. Sometimes hunters get so caught up in scent and sound control, they forget the buck uses his peepers, too. If you’re in a tree that hasn’t
dropped all its foliage, you will be much harder to see.
Make Sure You’re Ready Too!
All the camouflage in the world isn’t going to help if your fingers are frostbitten and can’t draw. Remember: it’s blood that keeps us warm. So keep your fingers and toes from freezing and plopping off by using liners. You’ll be happy you did!

Thank you for this. You’re almost described me– I’m interested in many things, but an expert in little. I’ve done many different jobs– all sort of related to communicating– but my resume is fairly incoherent. I feel I’m quite an underachiever, too.
